Area Info

Ucluelet is a small village surrounded by Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, 288 km (179 mi) northwest of Victoria, the British Columbia provincial capital. The locals pronounce Ucluelet as “You-cue-let”. It was named from the Nuu-chah-nulth term “yu-clutl-ahts” which is said to mean “the people of safe harbour” and “”people with a safe place to land” coined by the aboriginals in a time when canoes were the primary source of water transportation.

Ucluelet is a beautifully rugged village of 1,627 residents and is located just 30 minutes south of Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. This hidden gem is a photographer’s paradise and undiscovered playground for outdoors enthusiasts seeking a virgin destination. Some of the most popular attractions that draws tourists to Ucluelet and Tofino (40 km / 25 mi north) are as follows.

Wild Pacific Trail
Ucluelet Aquarium
Amphitrite Point Lighthouse
Pacific Rim Visitor Centre
Thornton Creek Hatchery

Ucluelet draws international tourist for a myriad of reasons. The laid back culture is influenced by the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation tribe, which has made the land its home for thousands of years. It’s oceanside appeal, and ancient cedar rainforest has a mesmerizing effect on visitors. The Wild Pacific Trail (just 5 minutes from Vancouver Island Vacation Rentals condos) overlook Barkley Sound and in the distance the Broken Group Islands. Barkley sound is a historical entrance to the Alberni Inlet and traditional First Nation grounds.

You’ll find it situated on the western terminus of Highway 4, where the south most part of the village ends on a peninsula pointing directly into Barkley Sound, a well known harbour for sports fishing, kayaking, whale watching, photography and amazing Canadian wildlife.

The protected Barkley Sound waters were named after 1787, after Imperial Eagle Captain Charles William Barkley explored the area in his trading vessel. Since the waters are nutrient-rich, there are plenty of wildlife feeding in these waters making it some of the most diverse waters found. These waters host killer whales, sea lions, porpoises, shrimp, rockcod and the best wild salmon in the world.

Another noteworthy aspect of Barkley Sound is it’s diversity on land. From bald eagles to raccoons, the occasional (rare!) black bear, and minks. It’s within sight of the Wild Coast Trail, which spans 75 km (47 mi) from Bamfield to Port Renfrew a hot-spot for world-class hiking (ideal place to bring your cameras to capture breath-taking panoramas and sunsets!). The West Coast Trail is a seven phase trail system which is accessible by reservation only, and stretches from Ucluelet to Half Moon Bay.

For those not fully committed to take the seven day trip, consider walking the Wild Pacific Trail, which is rated the #1 attraction to see in Vancouver Island on TripAdvisor.

Clearly, if you are looking for a quiet beautiful place for your vacation, Ucluelet is the place to come. The Wild Pacific Trail is one of the most scenic trails in the world and is a must see for anyone coming in. There are many scenic walks, beaches and trails to explore everywhere you turn.

FEATURED PROPERTIES

Beautiful large like-new condos. You can walk to the famous coastline trail. Sunsets and everything you could hope for on the coast of Vancouver Island. You are across the street, so you don’t really hear the surf. But you won’t care.

We have been coming to Ucluelet for many years and these are the nicest condos we know of in Ucluelet and have stayed a few times in each of the condos they rent. 1st class experience and you will love the view.

Very nice, upscale, comfortable condos with breathtaking views of the ocean. There was plenty of room for the four in my party. Will ask to stay in these condos on next trip back.
